SARANAC LAKE - Homer Gauthier, 76, of 13 William St., Saranac Lake, died Monday, April 10, 2000 at his home.
Born May 15, 1923 in Saranac Lake, he was the son of Ernest and Nora (Jabaut) Gauthier.
Mr. Gauthier was a lifelong resident of Saranac Lake. He contracted tuberculosis at an early age and later worked at Trudeau Sanatorium. Mr. Gauthier entered the military in 1943 serving with the United States Army Company K 345th Infantry Division, seeing action an Germany, France, Belgium and Luxemburg. Mr. Gauthier received the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, American Service Medal, EuropeanAfrican-Middle Eastern Service Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. Following the War, he was employed at the American Management Association as a computer operator for 22 years, until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Saranac Lake Moose Club, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 447, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Umber of Rochester, Patricia Morgan of Colton and Holly Dykeman of Lake Clear; one brother, Francis Gauthier of Saranac Lake; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two nephews and one niece. He was predeceased by one great-grandson, John Austin Wilson.
Calling hours will be held from 2. to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.
A VFW service will take place at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, and a funeral service will immediately follow at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, with Rev. James Larsh officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake in May.
