BEARS ATTACKED MEN.

Three of Them Came Out of Bushes Where Hunters Were Eating.

While Clarke Hayes. Homer Hayes and Byron Reed were eating dinner on the side of Moose mountain, four miles from Saranac Lake Sunday, three black bears broke through the bushes and came straight at them. The men are all experienced bear hunters, but they took to the tall timbers.

The only one to think of his gun was Clark Hayes. He grabbed his 44 Winchester and after running 10 rods turned and shot the largest bear in the head. The bear continued to make for Hayes and not until he had shot three times did it fall with a bullet through the heart. The other hunters by this time had regained their weapons and with four shots they bagged the other two bears.
