Howard T. Thompson was a World War II veteran.  He bought the Emma Bucknell camps on Upper Saranac Lake in the 1950s.

H. Thompson, retired physician, dies

SARANAC LAKE - Dr. Howard Thompson, 69, died Saturday, June 8, 1985, at Saranac Lake General Hospital. He had been a summer resident at Upper Saranac Lake for the past 30 years and has been a permanent resident for the past seven years.

He was born in Brooklyn May 18,1916, the son of Charles N. and Eva Mae (Wivell) Thompson.

Dr. Thompson was the former chief of urology at Rochester General Hospital. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Navy Pacific Theatre. He was a graduate of St. Francis College in Brooklyn and the University of Rochester Medical School, member of the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Fraternity and an Associate Professor of Surgery for the University of Rochester Medical School.

Survivors include his wife, the former Ruth Charles of Upper Saranac Lake; three sons; Eric Thompson of Guilford, Conn., Christian Thompson of Philidelphia, Penn. and Thomas Thompson of San Fransico, Cal.; three daughters; Mrs. William (Karin) Elkjer of Reston, Virginia, Mrs. David (Ingrid) Mahoney of Peru and Miss Naja Thompson of Philadelphia, Penn.; one sister, Mrs. John (Ruth) Cronin of Valley Stream, Long Island and six grandchildren.

Calling hours will be private for the family at the Keough and Son Funeral Home, Saranac Lake.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. John's in the Wilderness Church, Paul Smiths. Mr. William Gassett will officiate. Cremation will follow. Friends wishing to remember Dr. Thompson may make contributions to the Rochester General Hospital, the Saranac Lake General Hospital or the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad, in care of the Keough and Son Funeral Home.
