John Marquay was a guide who built the Marquay Cottage; his daughter, Mildred was a nurse.

Neither John Marquay nor Rose Duprey Marquay were born in Saranac Lake. Mining was part of the Marquay family lore, and the family recalls a connection to Cookshaft St. in Mineville, NY.
