Lawrence J. Labrake was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of William and Alice (Parent) LaBrake.

SARANAC LAKE - Lawrence J. LaBrake, 71, of Vermontville died Tuesday, April 22, 1997, at the Adirondack Medical Center.

Born Feb. 21, 1926 in Vermontville, he was the son of William and Alice (Parent) LaBrake.

He was married to the former Barbara Bryant on Nov. 19, 1944.

He was a lifelong resident of Vermontville. He served in the U.S. Army, and was a veteran of World War II. He had been employed as a carpenter with the state of New York, Chris-Craft, and the Olympic Regional Development Authority. He retired in 1988. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trapping. He also enjoyed gardening and wood carving.

Survivors include his wife; one son, William J. LaBrake of Saranac Lake; three daughters, Carol LaBrake of Pittsfield, Mass., Mary LaBrake of Vermontville, and Betty Callaghan of Chatsworth, Ca.; two brothers, Francis LaBrake of Franklin Falls, and Lloyd LaBrake of Lake Clear; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. LaBrake was predeceased by a brother, Leon, and a sister, Marie Mclntyre.

Calling hours and services will be private at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake with the Rev. Robert Clark, pastor of the Nazarene Church in Vermontville, officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery in Vermontville.

Contributions may be made in his memory to the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad, or the Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
