Leo F. Wood was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of Frank and Ida Ouellet Wood.

A funeral service, will be held at Wednesday morning from St. Bernards Catholic Church in Saranac Lake for Leo F. Wood, 55, of Grove Street, Saranac Lake who died Sunday morning about 10:45 in Sunmount VA Hospital. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

He had been in poor health for the past two years.

Born in Norwood on March 16, 1908, son of Frank and Ida Ouellet Wood, he came to Tupper Lake with his family when a young boy. He graduated from Holy Ghost Academy in 1923, attended Villanova University and Central City Business Institute in Syracuse. During World War II he served in the U. S. Navy, assigned to the USS Oberon, transport carrier, and was discharged with the rank of chief warrant officer. For the past 30 years he owned and operated the 911 Cleaners in Saranac Lake.

He was a member of the BPOE of Saranac Lake, Veterans of Foreign Wars and, prior to moving to Saranac Lake, of the Tupper Lake Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving are his mother, his wife, the former Miss Bernice McGowan, of Saranac Lake, who is principal of the Lake Colby elementary school; one daughter, Mrs. John (Patricia) Zohler of Syracuse; two grand-children, Eddie and Lisa Marie; two brothers, Lawrence and Ernest,Tupper Lake and three sisters, Mrs. John (Bernice) Maroun, Mrs. Bernard (Ruth) Chartier and Mrs. Harold (Marion) Nichols, all of Tupper Lake.

The body will repose at the Fortune Funeral Home until time of services. An Elks service will be held there at 8 p. m. Tuesday, and Rosary service at 8:30.
