Livingston Chapman was a World War I veteran; he operated 5 Shepard Avenue as the Hillcrest Cottage in 1933 to 1936. He lived at 6 Shepard Avenue. He was a concert singer and served as secretary of the Stevenson Society of America.

The October 9, 1935 New York Times reported his death at 63 at his home in Saranac Lake. The obituary indicated that he had joined the Y. M. C. A. during World War I, and served in the 356th Infantry of the Eighty-ninth Division. Shortly after the war he came to Saranac Lake where he opened a private tuberculosis sanatorium.
