BLOOMINGDALE

Several from here attended the funeral of Lyman Leavitt at his home in Gabriels last Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Leavitt was at one time a resident of this place, his parents being one of the pioneer families to settle here, on the farm where Sunset Rock Cottage now stands. Mr. Leavitt was a much respected citizen, a good friend and neighbor, and will he missed by the people in the community. He leaves several sons and daughters, his wife having died several years ago.

Saranac Lake Has A $10,000 Fire

Fire of unknown origin on last Friday destroyed the old Leavitt homestead on the main road between Saranac Lake and Gabriels, entailing a loss estimated at $10,000. The house was built by the late Lyman Leavitt about 60 years ago, and at the time of the fire was owned by Miss Mabel Levitt of New York, who occupied it during the summer months. The fire is thought to have started in an ice shed, and soon spread to the house and other surrounding buildings.
