Major Goodwill Dawson operated Major Dawson's Inn or Hall in Lake Clear from 1934 until his death in 1970; there was also a rental cottage. He worked at worked at the Saranac Inn from 1921 to 1934. He was a World War I veteran.

Last Rites Today For Major Dawson

Major Dawson, 80, well known throughout this area as the operator of Major's Inn in Lake Clear, died at 7:30 a. m. Tuesday at his home in Lake Clear.

Mr. Dawson had moved to Lake Clear in 1921 and worked at the Saranac Inn until 1934 when he started his own business. He was born April 9, 1890 in Charlottentown, [sic] Prince Edward Island, a son of Lemuel and Christine Hewett Dawson. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion. He also was a member of the Elks Club.

Survivors are his wife, Loretta McDonald Dawson; a son, James of Rome. N. Y.; a brother, Sterling of Saranac Like; four sisters: Mrs. Annie Brown and Mrs. Sadie Darrah of Saranac Lake; Mrs. Christina MacNeill of Boston, and Mrs. Hattie Wadell or Charlottentown; and three grandchildren.

The funeral was today at 2 p. m. at the Fortune Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Interment was in St. John's in the Wilderness Cemetery at Lake Clear.
