Adirondack Daily Enterprise, January 3, 2019.

Mrs. Margaret E. (Curry) Haig died peacefully in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts, on Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at the age of 85. She was formerly of Saranac Lake.

Margaret was born on March 5, 1933 in Saranac Lake, to Charles and Evelyn (Durking) Curry. She graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1950. She married Lee Haig in 1950, after which the couple welcomed four children into their home. Margaret’s children remember her as a kind, gentle, patient, yet strong willed mother who encouraged them to be independent, and having a highly amusing, self-deprecating sense of humor.

She was a generous, funny, dedicated, and loyal individual who loved children, and who was passionate about helping the less fortunate. She was The Town Clerk in Saranac Lake for many years till her retirement. She was also an active and dedicated member of the St. Luke’s Church, and often volunteered at The Budget Box, helping with their accounting needs. She also belonged to many local clubs and organizations such as The Moose Club, The Elks Club, Women’s Civic Chamber and The Winter Carnival Committee. She was even crowned Winter Carnival Queen in 1978. She was also involved in children’s theater and participated in several productions by the Half Pint Players.

Margaret is survived by her children: Kelly (Donna) Haig, (Keeseville) Joanne (Michael) Defoe, (Henderson, Nevada), and Sheila (Brian) Dongelewic, (South Yarmouth, Massachusetts); as well as four grandchildren: Amanda Davis, Patrick Davis, Natalie Haig, and Sarah Haig; and two great-grandchildren: Corey Thomas, and Logan Haig.

She is preceded in death by the late A. Lee Haig, her beloved husband, her daughter Kathleen M. (Haig) Davis, and sisters Leora (Don) Manley, Helen (Ed) Parker, Joanne (John) Smith, and Martha (Steven) Salls.

Calling hours are scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at the Fortune Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. The Rev. Rick Dennis will perform a ceremony at 3 p.m. All are welcome to attend, remember, and celebrate Margaret’s life.

The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff, etc. at the Pavilion Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility for their efforts, care, and compassion. We are forever grateful for their kindness.
