JAY - Marjorie Prentiss passed away on Oct. 16, 2012, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Marjorie was born on April 24, 1934, in Saranac Lake, N.Y. to Edward S. and Sarah C. Billings.

She attended school in Saranac Lake finishing her high school education at Stoneleigh-Burnham preparatory school in Greenfield, Mass. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Vermont in specializing in languages.

Marjorie married Carl Prentiss of Jay, N.Y., on Dec. 28, 1957. At the time of her marriage, she was employed by Essex County Department of Welfare as a caseworker. After the birth of her first child, she enjoyed the role of mother of four children until her return to work for the Essex County Headstart Program. Shortly thereafter, she began her career as a teacher at the Holy Name School in Au Sable Forks, N.Y., and then went on to teach middle school English at Au Sable Valley Central School until her retirement in 1990. Marjorie was passionate about golf, dogs, skiing, bowling, swimming and the New York Giants. She also loved reading literature, poetry, popular fiction and the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzles. She was a long-time member of the Whiteface Community Methodist Church. She loved her life and friends and appreciated every nuance of nature. Her family and friends were a constant source of joy. Every day was a journey with all the unexpected twists a source of mirth and laughter.

Marjorie was predeceased by her parents as well as her brother, Edward S. Billings, II and her sister, Jane Billings Webb.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Clark and son in law David; son, Carl E Prentiss Jr. and daughter-in-law Lisa; daughter, Jill Prentiss and daughter, Barbara Uzdavinis and son-in-law Stephen; her grandchildren Cameron Clark, Sarah Clark, Michael Clark, Benjamin Prentiss, Joseph Prentiss, Henry Uzdavinis, Charles Uzdavinis, Jonah Prentiss, George Uzdavinis and Schuyler Uzdavinis; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Maley Billings; and nephews and nieces ,David, Douglas and Timothy Webb, Nancy Cole, Rebecca Gillard, Edward S. Billings III, Jessie Billings and Peggy Peckham.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at the Thwaits-Zaumetzer Funeral home in Au Sable Forks with a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, also at the Thwaits-Zaumetzer Funeral home.
