Maurice Finnegan

DUNEDIN, Fla. —. Maurice J. Finnegan, 80, former superintendent of Malone Central Schools and a native of Bloomingdale, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 1990, after an extended illness. Born March 20, 1909, he was a graduate of Plattsburgh Normal School. He received his Masters degree from New York University. He spent his winters in Florida and summers in the Malone area. He was an inactive member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Malone Elks Lodge and the American Legion  and a long-time member of the Malone Golf Club.

He was active and widely recognized in New York state education organizations, serving as president of the New York State Teachers Association and the Newt York State Superintendents Association. He was a long-time secretary of the Franklin County Agricultural Association and served at the state fair level in many capacities, including past president of the New York State Fair Association.

During World War II, Mr. Finnegan volunteered for the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of captain.

He was an active member of St. Joseph's Parish, Malone and Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Dunedin.

Besides his wife, Janet, he is survived by a son, J. Brent Finnegan; two grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Karen all of Boston; and a sister, Lillian, of Saranac Lake.

A memorial service was held in Moss-Feaster Funeral Home. Private committal services will be held in Bloomingdale at a later date.

The family requests memorial donations be made in his name to Hospice, 300 East Bay Drive, Largo. Fla., 34640.
