Dr. Milburn R. Carlson was a dentist, with an office at 24 Church Street. The family lived at 106 1/2 Park Avenue (now 34 Cliff Road).  Dr. Carlson was a World War II Veteran, having served in the Navy.

Milburn R. Carlson

SARANAC LAKE - Milburn R, Carlson, 90, of 106 1/2 Park Ave. in Saranac Lake, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002 at the Adirondack Medical Center. Born in Watertown, Minn on Dec. 23, 1911, he was the son of Frank and Hilda Louise (Anderson) Carlson.

Mr. Carlson was a 1930 graduate of Watertown High School and was a 1932 graduate of the University of Minnesota Dental School. He was commissioned into the Navy in November 1942 and was assigned to the sixth Marine Division. He left the U.S. in November 1944 to serve at Guadalcanal, Guam, Okinawa and China. He was assigned back to the Navy in November 1945 and was stationed in Hawaii. He was discharged in March 1946.

Dr. Carlson married the former Rachel Johnson on April 13, 1944.

Dr. Carlson practiced dentistry in Pittsford from 1946 to 1948 when he moved to Saranac Lake. He set up his practice in Saranac Lake in 1948 which he operated until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 1508 since 1950. He was also a past member and president of the Saranac Lake Lions Club and a member of St. Luke's Church.

He is survived by three sons: Ralph Carlson of Claymont, Del, Allen Carlson and his wife Kathleen of Flowery Branch, Ga., and Robert Carlson of Jupiter, Fla., one daughter, Janice Carlson of Bloomingdale, one brother, Donald Carlson of Litchfield, Minn, one sister, Bernice Szatkowski of Rochester, five grandchildren Keith Carlson, Craig Carlson, Andrew Carlson, Kate Carlson and Alex Carlson; two great-grand- children, Jack and Evan Carlson.

He was predeceased by his wife on April 26, 1992, five brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.. A veteran's service will be held at 7:45 p.m., followed by an Elks service at 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Church of St. Luke the Beloved Physician with the Rev. Fredrick Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the Harrietstown Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
