Oscar Worthen was a dentist who came to Saranac Lake for the cure.  He built a house at 71 Glenwood Estates.

DR. WORTHEN, 71 LONG ILL, DIES

Dr. Oscar J. Worthen died at 6 a.m. today at the Saranac Lake General Hospital following a long illness. He had been a patient at the hospital for one day.

The Fortune Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements which are incomplete pending the arrival of a son, Stephen V. Worthen of South Windham, Me.

Dr. Worthen was born in Brooklyn on June 9, 1885, the son of George and Ada Cummings Worthen. He was educated in public schools and the Hefley Institute, Brooklyn, and in 1906 was graduated from the New York College of Dentistry and Oral Surgery of Columbia University.

Dr. Worthen maintained a practice in Brooklyn until coming to Saranac Lake. He was married in Brooklyn in 1912 to Florence Vail who survives. The couple came here for Dr. Worthen's health and built a home in Glenwood Estates where they resided for 22 years before moving to their present residence at 24 Church st.

The doctor had been very active in the Presbyterian Church and had served as church treasurer for 18 years.

Besides his widow and son, he is survived by a granddaughter, Cynthia.
