Robert Arthur Morhous was a guide. He served as coroner and Justice of the Peace in the 1890s in Harrietstown. He was also a founding director of the Saranac Lake Driving Association in 1888.

Robert A. Morhous has been coroner for several years, and has shown his possession of qualities requisite in the place by doing well whatever he ought to have done and by never undertaking unnecessary work to make expense for the county. He belongs in a section where a coroner ought to be located, and will be heartily supported.

Saranac Lake....Last Monday evening about six o'clock Robert A. Morhous, of this village, died at his home on Bloomingdale Ave., after an illness of just one week. He was born in Elizabethtown in 1851 and when but a child his father moved to Saranac Lake and settled where the Hotel St. Armand now stands. He was married in 1879 to Elizabeth Peck and eight children blessed their home, six of whom are still living. Until three years ago he was a contractor and builder, then he entered the emply of Branch & Callanan, taking charge of the glazing department. This spring, when Chas. S. Gay was appointed postmaster, Mr. Morhous took his place in the lumberyard, where he contracted pneumonia, which resultedin his death. His funeral was held Thursday at the Methodist church, Rev. D. H. Corkran officiating. The business places were closed, as was also Branch & Callanan's factory, to give their employes an opportunity to attend the funeral.

R. A. Morhous died at his home at Saranac Lake last week after an illness of only a few days' duration, aged 48 years. Deceased was highly respected throughout the southern towns of the county where he was best known and was at the time of his death one of the coroners of the county. He was employed as yard foreman for Branch and Callanan at Saranac Lake and it is thought that the exposure incident upon his duties in this capacity was one of the causes of his fatal illness. He leaves surviving a widow and six children.

No action has been taken as yet to appoint a successor to R. A. MORHOUS, deceased, as justice of the peace or coroner, and it is not likely that any will be taken until the coming year.— Saranac Lake Enterprise.
