Raymond P. Amell was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of Paul and Olive (Mose) Amell.

SARANAC LAKE - Raymond P. Amell, 70, of Bloomingdale, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998 at the Adirondack Medical Center at Saranac Lake.

Born May 29, 1928 in Keeses Mills, he was the son of Paul and Olive (Mose) Amell.

He married the former Jean Saumier July 28. 1951.

Mr. Amell was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. At one time he had been an active member of the Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed golf and was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He had been self-employed as a carpenter in the area for many years.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Donald and Paul of Bloomingdale, Larry of Ballston Spa and Stephen of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; three daughters, Sandra Amell of Plattsburgh, and Deborah and Brenda Amell, both of Saranac Lake; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Olivina Patnode of Saranac Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held Sunday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A veterans service and Bible Vigil service also were held Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Church, Bloomingdale. Interment will follow in St. Paul's cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home.
