Robert A. Jaquis was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of Mrs. Sylvia Jaquis of Paul Smiths.  He is buried in Mountain View Cemetery.

Robert A. Jaquis Sr., 76, of Keese Mills Road in Paul Smiths, died Saturday, June 26: 1999 in his home.

Born December 28, 1922 in Saranac Lake, he was the son of Charles W. and Sylvia A. (Fletcher) Jaquis.

He married, the former Madeline Otis on September 24, 1947.

Mr. Jaquis was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army.

He had been a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and joiners, Local # 1042 of Plattsburgh from 1951 to present. He worked as a carpenter for Donaldson Lumber Co., Gendron Lumber Co., and Branch and Callanan, retiring in 1984. He held foreman positions from 1955-1959 in Plattsburgh for Arthur Vennier Co. and from 1959-1960 for Cardinal Building, Inc. Plattsburgh. He also worked for the Marjorie Merriweather Post Camp for 10 years. He retired in 1984. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Saranac Lake. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting with his sons. He also enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include, his wife; a son, Robert A. Jaquis Jr. of Saranac Lake and a daughter-in-law Carol Jaquis of Saranac Lake; two daughters, Linda M. Callaghan of Woodborne and Lisa J. Sciacca of Tupper Lake; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son Earnest in 1985 and seven brothers and four sisters.

Calling hours were from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Fortune- Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A bible vigil will be held at 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Church of the Assumption, in Gabriels. The Rev. Joseph Trombley, the Pastor, will officiate. Cremation will follow with interment in Mountain View Cemetery in Gabriels.

Memorial contributions may be made to High Peaks Hospice in care of the funeral home.
