Roger is survived by his wife Margaret Mayne Hesseltine; his son George “Jake” Hesseltine and his wife Becky, and their children Nina and Mason. He is also survived by stepchildren Jaime Mayne Pietrack and her husband Michael, their daughters Maddilyn, Olivia and Gwen; and Michael Mayne and his wife Shannon and their daughter Jaelyn. Also surviving are his sister Patricia Hesseltine Finn and his brother Ronald Hesseltine, both of Saranac Lake, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Maurice Hesseltine and Carrie Kelly Hesseltine Hollis, as well as his daughter Susan Hesseltine.

Following graduation from Saranac Lake High School, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served with honor. After his military service, Roger dedicated his life to ski patrol, building on the skills he honed on Mt. Pisgah in Saranac Lake. He worked at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington before moving to Colorado and joining the elite ski patrol at Vail Mountain in Vail. His exceptional skills allowed him to ski alongside visiting celebrities and dignitaries, including former President Gerald Ford. Outside of his career, Roger enjoyed biking, kayaking, and rowing his guide boat up and down the river while spending summers at the family camp on Oseetah Lake.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family to honor Roger’s life. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the Saranac Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad in memory of Roger Hesseltine.
