Timothy L. Jock was elected Mayor of Saranac Lake for six terms, from 1979 to 1987 and from 1995 to 1998. He decided not to seek re-election after his first term as mayor, but in 1977 he was appointed to a vacant seat on the board. In 1979, Jock ran for mayor again and won, after which he was re-elected four times in a row. He chose not to run in 1987. He was known for his direct, fiery style.

He moved to Saranac Lake in 1968 to attend North Country Community College, graduating with a social science degree. He worked for Prudential Insurance Company and as a cook at Camp Gabriels. He was also involved with the Pendragon Theatre.
