William C. Shackett

LAKE PLACID — William C. Shackett, 87, of 52 Greenwood St., Lake Placid, died on Friday, Jan. 28, 2000 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Lake Placid. Born July 21, 1912, in Saranac Lake he was the son of William and Amber Shackett. Mr. Shackett was a graduate of Saranac Lake High School and a veteran of World War II serving in the Army. He worked as manager of the Lake Placid Airport for 17 years, retiring in 1958. He and his wife Maude then operated the Steak House at 21 Main Street for 11 years. He had also worked at Lake Placid Hardware and the Lake Placid Electric Company. Mr. Shackett was a member of the Lake Placid Masonic Lodge #834, a Life Member of the Lake Placid American Legion, a Life Member of the Massena Elks Lodge and a member of the Oriental Shrine. Survivors include his wife; a sister Thelma Grant of Tampa, Fla.; a half-sister Ruth McKillip of Renton, Wash, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. There will be a Masonic Prayer service at 8 pm. on Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31., Rev. Mark Demers will officiate. Burial will be in the North Elba Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service or the Oriental Shrine.
