William Wallace, Jr. was a son of police chief William J. Wallace. He worked a police office, a corrections officer and a school bus driver.

William J. Wallace, 75, of Saranac Lake, passed away at home on Saturday, December 31, 2023 with his wife Betty at his side.

He was surrounded by his family, daughter Jennifer, her husband Brett Rogers, daughter Susan, her husband Keith Hooker and son Michael and his wife Courtney Wallace. Grandchildren, Samantha Hooker, Madison Ketchum, Tyler Hooker, Nevaeh Christmas Jacque Hooker, Marie Hooker, Gracie Christmas, Lucas Rogers, Sophie Christmas, Landin Wallace, Blake Wallace and Skyler Wallace.

William was born on September 4, 1948 the son of William and Alice (Munn) Wallace. He married Betty Newman on January 16, 1971 in Emerson, NJ.

He enlisted and served in the United States Navy from April of 1969 through March 1973. He was a police officer in Saranac Lake from 1977 to 1981 and a Corrections Officer at FCI Raybrook from 1981 to 2001. He then retired and became a school bus driver for Saranac Lake Central School District for over 20 years until 2019.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Friday January 5, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A prayer service will immediately follow at 6:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Martin Cline officiating.
