William Mace, founder of Radio Station WNBZ, died Monday morning at his home at 94 1/2 Lake Street, Saranac Lake. He was born in Merrillsville 76 years ago.

Mr. Mace, who was an auto mechanic, owned and operated a garage at one time. Then, around 1926, he, with Earl Smith, started the radio station in the Masonic building,. After selling the station he went into sales and repair of radios and television sets. Mr. Mace was also a golf enthusiast.

His parents were the late Amasa and Elizabeth Fletcher Mace.

Survivors are his wife, the former Hazel Dockum whom he married in October of 1909 in Saranac Lake; a son, Phelps Francis at Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Daisy Mary Tyler of Saranac Lake seven grandchildren and ten great grand-children. He also leaves a brother, Fletcher, of Saranac Lake and a sister, Mrs. Abbie Pasho.
