Willis J. Wood was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of Guy and Emily (Annesley) Wood.

SARANAC LAKE - Willis J. Wood, 77, of Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 1995 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born June 30, 1917 in Maple Grove, Quebec, he was the son of Guy and Emily (Annesley) Wood.

Mr. Wood was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army. He moved to Saranac Lake in 1946 and had been employed at the National Army Store for 35 years -- nine years in Little Falls, and 26 years in Saranac Lake -- retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 1508.

Survivors include his wife, the former Thelma Ward, whom he married on Sept. 8, 1948; a daughter, Mrs. James (Deborah) Croft of Sudbury, Mass.; a brother, Guy, of Speculator; a sister, Mystie Wood of Saranac Lake; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Laura Wood and Agnes Cruickshank; and a brother, Stanley Wood.

Calling hours will be held today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. An Elks service will be held at 8 p.m. A funeral service will take place Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Luke's Church in Saranac Lake with Rev. Frederick Dennis officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery in Vermontville in May.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Luke's Church or to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad in his memory.
