James John Winch was a World War II Veteran who served in the Pacific Theater. He was at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed in 1941. He was a son of Harvey Winch and Inez (Bray) Winch of 1 Fawn Street.

SARANAC LAKE - James J. Winch, 75, of 1 Woodycrest Road, Saranac Lake, died Friday, Dec. 1, 1995, at the Adirondack Medical Center of Saranac Lake.
Born Feb. 28, 1920 in Saranac Lake, he was a son of Harvey and Inez (Bray) Winch.
A lifelong resident of Saranac Lake, Mr. Winch had been employed as a line mechanic for Niagara Mohawk Power Co. for many years until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II and survived the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Saranac Lake Adult Center, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical. Workers. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, and football and was an accomplished swimmer.
He married the former Helen Sweeney Oct. 23, 1948.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Diane) Furtaw of Greenfield, Mass.; a step-brother, Alvin Brown of Ashville, N.C.; a stepsister, Mrs. Richard (Bertha) Emperor of Saranac Lake; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his mother, father, and stepmother, Grace Manley Brown, who raised him.
There will be no calling hours. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations may be mad to the Saranac Lake Adult Center in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.
