Xeo's Cafe was a Vietnamese cafe and restaurant specializing in quick, local and seasonal Vietnamese cuisine. The owner, Sebastian, was also the cook and the server. He featured a small menu of traditional Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwiches), spring rolls, noodle bowls, and a seasonal pho or soup. Banh Mi are sandwiches that originated from Vietnam during the age of French Imperialism. The fusion of both traditional Vietnamese and French cooking are apparent in this dish as standard Asian flavors including pickled vegetables, cilantro, and soy sauce meet some French patte all stuffed inside a french baguette. The sandwiches cost $6.75 and come with a side of seasonal vegetables, often a Vietnamese slaw. The vast majority of the produce is locally grown, and delivered from around the Finger Lakes, and all of the meat products are free range, and locally raised as well.

2009-11-25 11:59:53   I love the Banh Mi at this place. It is easily the best Banh Mi I have ever had. While I admit that its expensive compared to what I am used to paying for Banh Mi, the money is well worth the added quality and the restaurants sustainable cooking practices. I love that they use all local vegetables, tofu, and meat (plus the meat is all free range). I got the traditional sandwich with BBQ pork glazed in sweet soy sauce and topped with pickled daikon, carrot, cilantro, and cucumber. The pickled vegetables add a nice tang and crunch that really accompany the salty and sweet meat and the crusty baguette. It was absolutely tasty, and very fresh. This is easily my new favorite place to stop by in College town. —MattHh

2010-04-12 19:26:48   Very tasty food and friendly atmosphere. It's really nice to go to a place where the staff know the growers of each of the ingredients. My vegetarian daughter enjoyed her vegan sandwich, while my meat eating husband enjoyed his pork sandwich. I had the hot and sour noodle soup. It was hot for my very bland Anglo tastebuds, but satisfying. —24.58.62.88
