Title: Footprints

Year: 2005

Artist: Nicholas Rees

Medium: Cast Portland cement

Location: Downtown Community Centre

35 Weber Street West  Kitchener, ON    N2H 3Z1

Acquisition Method: Public Art (1%)

The art work consists of shoeprints in cement, created using historic Kaufman

footwear samples (Kaufman Shoe Factory, formerly on King Street) from the

collection of Kitchener’s Industrial Artifacts Project. The artist used this approach

to suggest pedestrian traffic accessing the Downtown Community Centre, thus

reflecting its purpose of bringing people together in community while

acknowledging the heritage of the downtown.
