Eureka is regarded as a hub for creative expression and reflects the creative population of its county, Humboldt, in northwest California. During this time of Covid-19 the value and impact of art on us all has become apparent. The creation of public art, most notably murals, has grown since the 1990s, when the Ink PeopleCenter for the Arts initiated a concerted effort to create new murals. The Rural Burl Mural Bureau (a real mouth full!) was born and has resulted in many murals. This Wiki hopes to present initially Eureka's rich history of supporting this form of public art.

The most recent official effort has been the Eureka Street Arts Festival 2020 which focused on the Henderson Center district of Eureka. An artists call was sent out by the ESAF steering committee and many artists were selected to create murals on the walls of local businesses and sidewalks.
