Girls Who Code is an organization dedicated to closing the gender gap in Computer Science. The organization hosts a 7 week Summer Immersion Program that allows high school girls in 11th and 12th grade to learn and engage themselves in the world of Computer Science and code. In 2012, Girls Who Code was originally a program only in New York City. For the first time, in 2014 Girls Who Code spread around the country including here in Miami. The program is hosted at 2 location sites: one in the Verizon Terremark Data Center and another at the Miami Dade College North Campus. Both of these locations are hosted by Verizon. The curriculum in the Summer Immersion Program includes the coding languages Scratch, Python, Java Script, HTML and CSS. The students are also immersed in the professional world: they develop networking skills as well as several long lasting friendships. The Girls also have access to several mentors who are more than willing to answer any questions they may have.

"Coding has opened my eyes to a whole new field of technology." -Angela Don, a Girls Who Code 2014 student.
