Why is there so much neon in Miami?!

Things that have neon:

• Miami Tower - it's entirely covered in neon.
• the InterContinental Miami hotel (there is neon on the windows of the hotel tower that have a moving pattern..the pattern looks like a dancing lady on the side of the entire building)
• the MacArthur Causeway
• lots of buildings along the beach in Miami Beach
• boats
