Wilfredo Gort (District 1) was elected as City of Miami Commissioner in the City-wide election on November 9, 1993. In 1996 Mr. Gort was selected Vice Mayor, and served as acting mayor three months after the death of Mayor Stephen P. Clark.

Having worked on the 1994 – 1995 City Budget in collaboration with the city’s department directors and unions, Mr. Gort was able to reduce, city budget by over $20 million. Mr. Gort worked closely with the City Neighborhood Enhancement System (NET), believing that this the best system to better serve the community; indentifying each communities needs and addressing those needs to better each community and therefore strengthen the city community by community.
