Overview

The Elliot House is a historic home, located in Mississauga at 5732 Kennedy Road, on the west side of Kennedy Road, north of Watline Avenue.

The one-and-a-half storey stone residence was constructed in circa 1860 which belonged to the Adam Elliot and the Elliott family

Adam Elliott, an immigrant from Scotland settled here in 1825, purchasing the Elliot House property in 1836.  Adam's historical contribution came when he served on the Grand Jury in 1827.  It's also of note that his son John was said to have built the first reaping machine in Canada.

In 1886 the property was sold, and in the 1980's the property was zoned for commercial use.  Since then, the Elliot House has been a couple of restaurants, firstly, The Elliot House Restaurant, and later became, Culinaria Restaurant

It is also home to a Culinary School - The Culinary Arts School of Ontario, as well as a recreational cooking center - Home Chef School, which offers kids cooking classes, summer camps, adult cooking classes and more.

Historical Protection

The property was designated, by the City of Mississauga, in 1981, for its heritage value, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, By-law 919-81.
