I moved to Oakland from Hollywood about 1942.   I was 4 years old.  I can remember the first place we lived but not the exact location.  My parents purchased a modest home on Deerwood  off of 73rd Avenue.  The house is still there and is,, to the best of my knowledge, still occupied by the same family that purchased it from my parents around 1950-51.  I attended the old Markham Elementary  School and  was in the very first graduating class of the "new"  Markham.  I can remember the white glass hothouses that were owned by the Japanese before World War II on 73rd Ave.   I attended Frick Jr. High for a few months before my parents moved the family to the Trestle Glen Area.  Our home was a lovely English Tudor type that was eventually torn down when the  freeway came through.  I attended Oakland High graduating in 1956.
