Overview
Breadmen's is a restaurant and caterer located on West Rosemary Street near the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The restaurant opened in 1974 and is a popular destination for American home-style food for Chapel Hill and Carrboro residents. Breakfast is served all day.1
History
Breadmen's was started by Roy Piscitello, a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. Wanting to stay in Chapel Hill after graduation, Piscitello opened the restaurant to target the late night crowd coming from the bars. Their hours have changed since then, now open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
After Piscitello opened Breadmen's, he looked for a location to open a second restaurant with the help of his sister, Arlene. Arlene started MBA School at UNC-Chapel Hill in the fall of 1975, so his brother, Bill, moved to Chapel Hill in 1976 to help run their second restaurant, Tello's. Tello's closed more than a year later, after which the brothers focused on running Breadmen's.
In 1992, Breadmen's moved to its current location, which was previously the home of Western Sizzlin'.1
Food
Breadmen's is known for its breakfast food, which is served all day. Popular menu items are their corned beef hash, banana pudding, biscuits and gravy, and corn bread.2
Breadmen's aims to provide high-quality food from local farmers. The eggs come from Latta's Egg Ranch, which is north of Hillsborough.3 Their meat is delivered from Cliffs Meat Market in Carrboro six days per week.1
