What do you know about Protesting & Looting Raleigh, NC?

On May 31, 2020, approximately 1,000 people went downtown Raleigh to protest against racial injustice. The protest started the day after George Floyd was murdered in front of the store Target by a cop who kneeled on his neck. These protest for racial injustice were suppose to be peaceful, however they ended up turning violent by police tear gassing and using pepper spray to stop the protesters from protesting. Many protesters felt so at raged that they began to loot businesses and damage federal property due to the racial injustice. The protest went from Raleigh to Fayetteville. Historic buildings, police cars, and even flags were burned to represent their anger. Many business owners were distraught after seeing their business destroyed from looting. On the next day, it was time to clean up both cities and make them look great again. Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin (Mayor of Raleigh), was disappointed in her city. Baldwin quotes ""Raleigh is better than this, and that's evidenced in the fact that our community is already coming together to help clean up. on twitter. Another person states "Almost every window down on Fayetteville Street is broken," said WRAL reporter Keely Arthur.

Eventually a curfew was enforced for Raleigh residents to abide by due to the violent protesting. Although the 10pm curfew was enforced, the Raleigh anti-protesters did ignore the curfew. According to Fox News, Raleigh protesters were smashing windows, threw some red paint, and other objects at the law enforcement. A Raleigh man, Jeffrey Stallings, 34 states “I would rather die out here tonight of pepper spray, rubber bullets and sticks than to die on the streets with people thinking I’m a devil,” “We’re people. We’re brothers and sisters.”
