Durham and its suburbs are home to several good bike shops where bikes and accessories can be purchased and serviced.  This page will list the best shops, with a short review on each.  For more information, please visit the page about that particular shop.

REI Durham: This branch of REI has a full-service bike shop in their store.  They take walk-ins for service, and they have an extensive supply of everything from reflective stickers to top-end cycles.  The bike technicians are knowledgeable and very helpful.  REI is pricey, but the service is good and almost all of the accesories are top-notch.  REI Durham is located near the Southpoint Mall.

The Bicycle Chain (On 15-501): Located on 15-501 near Wal-Mart and Dick's Sporting Goods, this bike shop/store is more centrally located than REI, and carries about the same amount of accesories.  The service here is comparable to that of REI, but I feel my bike is safer in the hands of the REI techs.  Prices are lower here, but service could use some work.

The Durham Bike Co-Op: A great place to volunteer, this shop serves the low-income members of the Durham community by providing them with low-cost or free service.  Volunteering here is a great way to learn about servicing bikes, and will save you many trips to the shop once you become familiar with basic maintenance.
