City Council District 5 includes the neighborhoods of Airport, Brentwood, Carleton Tract, Central Oak Park, Colonial Heights, Curtis Park, Fairgrounds, Fruitridge Manor, Golf Course Terrace, Hollywood Park, Lawrence Park, Med Center, North City Farms, North Oak Park, Parkway, SCC, South City Farms, South Oak Park, Tahoe Park and Woodbine.

The district is currently represented by Jay Schenirer.

This district was formerly represented by Lauren Hammond.

The last election for the District 5 City Council seat took place in June of 2006. In that election, incumbant City Council Member Lauren Hammond defeated challenger LR Roberts by a margin of 76 to 23%. The next election for this district will occur in 2010.

Gentrification is a problem in many neighborhoods, especially in North Oak Park. Crime is also a problem in many District 5 neighborhoods.
