Leland High School sits in the heart of Almaden Valley. The high school is part of the San Jose Unified School District. During the 2004-2005 school year, Leland High School was awarded with the National Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence by the United States Department of Education. It is most notable for its high academics and nationally ranked speech and debate team.

The most famous alumni of Leland High School was Pat Tillman. Tillman attended Leland High School from 1990-1994, where during his senior year he led the Leland Chargers football team to the to the Central Coast Section (CCS) Division I Championship and was named the co-player of the year honors for the CCS. After high school Tillman attended Arizona State University. After college Tillman was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals. After the September 11th attacks, Tillman turned down a multi-million dollar contract with the Cardinals and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He participated in the initial invasion of Operation Iraqi Freedom and then was redeployed to Afghanistan. On April 22, 2004, he was killed in a friendly fire incident while on patrol. The specific details of his death and its aftermath are currently being investigated by the US Congress. Leland High School's football field has been renamed in honor of Pat Tillman.
