Where Lake Avenue becomes 5th Avenue.5th Avenue in Santa Cruz is near the Santa Cruz Harbor. It is just over 2,000 feet long. From Carmel Street to Eaton Street, 5th Avenue is one-way going north. From Carmel Street going south to a road barrier it is two-way traffic. From the barrier going south to the East Cliff Drive, 5th Avenue is one-way (going south).

The traffic barrier on 5th Avenue is to prevent accidents with merging traffic from Lake Avenue.

Bike-Friendliness From Carmel Street to Eaton Street, 5th Avenue is a slight incline going north. Traffic is light. From Carmel Street going south to the barrier, there is a manageable downhill slope. Bicycles can easily get past the barrier.
