Thank You For Your Support

Dear Friends,

With love and thanks The Glass Jar Restaurant Family announces two milestones in its growth and evolution: the closure of Assembly Restaurant and the opening of a new Penny Ice Creamery location in early 2019.

After over 4 years of farm to table cuisine, celebrating the bounty of local agriculture and the joys of community dining, Assembly in its present form, has served its last meal. This has been a period of wonderful events and days of service. We’ve hosted black tie Academy Awards shindigs, Event Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz Warriors season opening parties, marriage proposals, numerous family and organizational gatherings of all types and most recently, the official launch of the Alliance of Women Entrepreneurs in Downtown Santa Cruz. The last two weeks have been our busiest of the year and it has been a joy to serve all our fantastic guests.

While we have much to be proud of and a lot of joy to look back on, Assembly certainly had its bumps and scrapes. We want to thank everyone who came along for the ride. The closure of Assembly marks the end of a chapter, but certainly not the end of the story. We did what we set out to do and now it’s time for a change.

Assembly was a serious restaurant, in ways more serious than we intended. During Assembly’s tenure Kendra and Zach each welcomed new additions to their respective families and with family comes new considerations. Whatever The Glass Jar does next will reflect family and fun. This has always been the nature of The Glass Jar, ever since we started with The Penny Ice Creamery on Cedar Street back in 2010: learning, exploring, sharing. What comes next will be different, but our core values of local focus and sustainable business practices will always remain.

With this in mind we are excited to announce that in early 2019 we will join a host of other wonderful local businesses in the emerging Aptos Village. With neighbors like Cat & Cloud, a concept from David Kinch of Manresa, New Leaf Market, The Sock Shop & Shoe Co. and more to be announced it is sure to be a jewel of the Aptos community. Look for us in Building 3 on the Village Green and we invite you to keep in touch and will provide you with all the details as this project goes forward.

Again we want to thank all of you who have supported us and we especially want to thank the folks who have worked alongside us over the years. We quite literally couldn’t have done it without you. Questions and comments to [email protected]. Keep in touch all of you!

In food and community,

Kendra Baker and Zachary Davis

PS If you have a Glass Jar Gift Card with a balance it will of course continue to work at The Penny and The Picnic Basket!
