The Santa Cruz Medical Clinic was founded by a group of local physicians, and the early clinic was located on the Westside. The clinic was completely owned and run locally by the physicans themselves. The clinic grew from 12 physicians in 1965 to twice that in the 1970s. In the 1980s they built the 2025 Soquel Avenue multi-story location, and later a location in Scotts Valley at 4663 Scotts Valley Drive.
The Santa Cruz Medical Clinic became a Sutter Health and Palo Alto Medical Foundation affiliate in 1995.
