Well known landmarks in Coogee include the famous 'turn of the century' ocean pool Wylies Baths, Coogee Beach, Randwick Rugby Club and Randwick Oval and the Duningham Reserve Memorial for the Australians killed in the Bali Bombings.  Of those lost in these dreadful attacks, a large number were from the Coogee area, and many were members of  the Coogee Dolphins Football Club.

Coogee Beach facing southCoogee Beach in more recent years has also been known for it's concentration of large pubs, namely the Coogee Bay Hotel and Beach Palace Hotel, and for incidents of alcohol related violence and bashings on the streets.

The Coogee Precinct, is also very active in the Coogee basin area and recently campaigned against a large commerical, retail & residential development proposal for the Coogee Bay Hotel site.  The development proposal was being considered under the previous Labor Government's controversial Part 3A of the EPA Act and was deemed by Labor Planning Minister Tony Kelly to be a 'Major Project'.  This was subsequently revoked by Barry O'Farrell's new Liberal/National Party Government when it came to power in March 2011.  The Coogee Precinct collected over 10,000 signatures to a petition demanding that the State Government respect local planning laws and restrictions on the beachfront site occupied by the Coogee Bay Hotel and surrounding properties.
