North Sydney Council's North Sydney Olympic pool is built on a site where much of the erection work for the Sydney Harbour Bridge had been carried out. Opened in 1936, it was called the wonder pool of Australia due to the high standard of facilities and its modern filtration system.

Its harbourside location between the Bridge and Luna Park makes it exceptional. The art deco styling has been preserved. 86 world records have been set at the pool, including: John Konrads and Ilsa Konrads, Lorraine Crapp, Frank O'Neill, Judy Joy Davies, John Devitt, Shane Gould and Michelle Ford.
