Tallahassee's version of the state games are hosted by the City of Tallahassee Neighborhood Affairs as a State of Florida Senior Games qualifies.   The event provides 19 sports for athletes 50 plus years from any state.  Go on line to check entry forms, and/or check with the Senior Center for information.

Years of experience are not necessary for some events.  From beginners to lifelong athletes, just about every one over 50 can find an event they'll enjoy in the Senior Games.  Some events for beginners to consider are  Pickleball--a hybrid of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, is played with wooden paddles, baseball sized plastic balls, and a low net.  It's played at the Senior centeer on Wed., 1:30 - 4 pm, and Fridays 11:45 -2 pm.  Equipment is available for loan.  Basketball shooting:  Three events are offered:  free-throw shooting, spot shooting, from five designated spots, and timed shooting, one minute rounds to get as many baskets as possible from designated spots.  Table Tennis:  The game is played on Tues. and Thurs. from 2:15 -4:15 pm at the Senior Center.  Jack McLean Community Center  (850-891-2505) and Forestmeadows (850-891-3920) also offer table tennis.  Swimming:  The 50 yard race is two lengths of the pool.  Choose from free-style, backstroke, breaststroke, or butterfly events.  Wade Wehunt Pool is roofed for the winter.  850-891-3985  Track and field:  The 100 meter (328Ft.) event is about 30 ft. shorter than a football field.  Walking is fine.   Horseshoes:  Forestmeadows maintains five regulation pits and has horseshoes for check-out. (850-891-3920)  Tom Brown Park and Jack L. McLean Community Center also have pits.  McLean has horseshoes that can be checked our.  Age divisions start at 50 -54 and go up by increments of 5 years to 85-89.  There is a 90 plus division.
