Durward is a Midtown Tallahassee neighborhood whose development reached its peak during the 1960's. One of the most distinctive characteristics of the Neighborhood is that all streets end with the word "Ride", rather than "road", "street" or "drive". Because of this, Durward is more commonly referred to by locals as "the Rides".
The use of the term "rides", as well as the individual street names, are derived from the well-ridden horse trails that originally ran across the original plantation.
The Durward Neighborhood is geographically contained by four streets. Durward's southern boundary is South Ride, its northern boundary is North Ride, eastern boundary is Thomasville Rd and its western boundary is Meridian Road.
