Chestnut Street is a residential street that runs east-west from Ashley Avenue to Imperial Street just south of Ralph Harris Park in west Woodland. Alpine Place and Modoc Place are dead-end streets that project northward from Chestnut Street.

It's possible that Chestnut Street is named after true chestnut trees, which are members of the same plant family as our native oak trees. However, since chestnut trees do not typically grow in Woodland, it's more likely that the street is named after the California buckeye trees that are native to Woodland and sometimes referred to as "horse chestnuts." Nearby Buckeye Street is also named after buckeye trees. Buckeye trees or horse chestnuts are not at all closely related to true chestnut trees.
