Pioneer Avenue and North Pioneer Avenue together follow much (but not all) of the original route of County Road 101 through Woodland. As such, they are the first major north-south thoroughfare to the west of County Road 102. From north to south:

  1. County Road 101 becomes North Pioneer Avenue south of Churchill Downs Avenue.
  2. North Pioneer Avenue becomes Pioneer Avenue south of East Beamer Street.
  3. Pioneer Avenue swings 0.3. miles to the southeast before resuming its north-south direction.
  4. Pioneer Avenue swings 0.1 miles back to the southwest south of Farmers Central Road.
  5. Pioneer Avenue ends at a T-shaped intersection in which Parkland Avenue goes in both of the other directions.
  6. The south end of Parkland Avenue connects to County Road 25A (a right turn that heads west only from Parkland Avenue).
  7. County Road 25A intersects County Road 101, about 0.1 miles west of where it connects to Parkland Avenue.

Bourn Drive and Harry Lorenzo Avenue follow the original north-south route of County Road 101 through town for almost the entire length that Pioneer Avenue does not. However, Bourn Drive leads to the dead-end Bourn Court on its north end, so you can't drive directly to or from Pioneer Avenue from Bourn Drive or Bourn Court. If you're on foot, though, you can walk through North Bourn Alley from Bourn Court to Springlake Court, and it's less than 500 feet to reach Pioneer Avenue from Bourn Court.

North Pioneer Avenue

North Pioneer Avenue runs between East Beamer Street and Churchill Downs Avenue. It runs north-south in a straight line, intersecting Tanforan Avenue (which heads west only from North Pioneer Avenue) and East Kentucky Avenue. It passes by Woodland Public Works.

Pioneer Avenue

Pioneer Avenue runs between East Beamer Street and Parkland Avenue. It intersects Tide Court (east only), passes under Interstate 5, and then intersects East Main Street. Beginning its southeastward bend, it intersects Springlake Court (west only), Lee Alley (east only, pedestrian only), Farnham Avenue, Hazeman Alley (west only, pedestrian only), and then Hatcher Drive/Merritt Circle. resuming a due north-south route, it intersects East Gum Avenue, Oliver Court (east only), Brennen Drive/Branigan Drive, East Gibson Road, Patriot Way, and Farmers Central Road. Along the way, it passes by Chevron, Starbucks, Big 5 Sporting Goods, Food 4 Less, Jinju Sushi, Bel Air, Iguana's Mexican Grill, Kuji Asian Grill, Aisle 1, and Pioneer High School.

Pioneer Avenue south of East Main Street has been heavily planted with street trees by the city. Street trees on Pioneer Avenue include the invasive weed species Purple-leaf Plum/Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera) and Flowering Pear/Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana) but also one tree species native to WoodlandValley Oak (Quercus lobata). Other non-native street trees planted along Pioneer Avenue include European Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus 'Fastigiata'), Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis), Chinese Fringe Tree (Chionanthus retusus), Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica), Japanese Crabapple (Malus floribunda), Prairie Crabapple (Malus ioensis 'Prariefire'), Black Tupelo/Sour Gum (Nyssa sylvatica), Canary Island Pine (Pinus canariensis), Chinese Pistache (Pistacia chinensis), London Plane (Platanus × hispanica), Northern Red Oak (Quercus rubra), Little-leaf Linden (Tilia cordata), and Saw-leaf Zelkova (Zelkova serrata).
