The Wyandotte Downtown Development Authority was formed by the city of Wyandotte after the State of Michigan passed Public Act 197 of 1975, which authorized Downtown Development Authorities.

A Community Engagement Session was held on April 2, 2014. Among things that were nixed in this survey were parking meters and a Joe’s Crab Shack outlet. Additions of an Apple Store and a Whole Foods Market/Trader Joe's-type store were met with mixed results.
