LiveJournal (or LJ, pronounced eljay) is a journaling/blogging site started in 1999 by then college student Brad Fitzpatrick and designed specifically for time-wastage. Though Facebook later trumped LJ in timewastageness, the site remains online, run by the Russians since 2005.

One noteworthy feature of the site is the community journals - journals with entries created by the members of the group, usually moderated. A user may subscribe to individual and community journals and view them on a "friends" page separate from his or her own journal/blog. Unlike Facebook, viewing the page full of other peoples' businesses is not obligatory.
