Ian Krieg (b. 1983, d. 2010)

Obituary

Krieg, Ian William Herbert Formerly of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, MI

Age 26, Ian went to be with his Lord during the week of March 14, 2010, in Bellevue, WA, after a sudden brief illness. He was born September 23, 1983, in Ann Arbor. Ian's love of Jesus Christ was a central part of his being, from his earliest days at St. Paul Lutheran School in Ann Arbor. He was never satisfied, though, to simply accept what others told him, preferring to wrestle with the tough questions of faith. He attended Ypsilanti High School, where he participated in the theater both as a tech and as an actor. He was a member of the prize-winning FIRST Robotic Team 470, St. Luke Lutheran Church, and Mission Christ. In 2006, he graduated with honors from the Residential College at the University of Michigan, having studied computer science and creative writing. While at U of M, he served as a theater tech for the Residential College, mentored his high school's Team 470, became a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and attended New Life Church. Immediately after college he accepted a position at Amazon.com, where he was still employed and had just been promoted (though he did not yet know it) at the time of his death. Ian attended The Neighborhood Church and 20CF, a Christian group of twenty-somethings. He enjoyed walking in nature, reading and writing fantasy, and hosting game nights, song circles, and story circles. He is survived by his parents, Laurence and Martha Krieg, by his sisters Katherine 'Katy' (wife of Eric) Kramp, M. Elissa Krieg, and Megumi (wife of Junjiro) Kurata, and by nephews Robert and Shingen Joseph, and niece Lucy. He also leaves behind a large number of friends who appreciated his intelligence, his charm and wit, his gentle caring, his excellent work, and his loyalty. A memorial service was held March 23 at The Neighborhood Church, in Bellevue, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Benevolent Fund of St. Luke Lutheran Church -Ann Arbor, American Lung Association, or Medic Alert. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Michigan.
