Ventura County, located between the Santa Barbara County and Los Angeles County, is home to Camarillo and its surrounding cities. It stretches from the Pacific Ocean north to the southern foothills of the San Joaquin Valley and Cuyama Valley.
The county seat is Ventura. Most of the County of Ventura's offices are located in the County Government Center off of Victoria Avenue. There are also some county offices in Simi Valley, such as the branch of the Superior Court made famous for trying Rodney King.
Culturally, western Ventura County is much more rooted in our agricultural heritage, and provides local jobs in commerce and light industry. The western part (west of the Conejo Grade) leans slightly more politically progressive, especially in Oxnard. In contrast, eastern Ventura County serves as bedroom communities for Los Angeles and The Valley. The eastern portion consists of Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, and Simi Valley, while Fillmore is culturally in the west. And the northern portion of the county is part of the Los Padres National Forest, with few residents and a condor preserve.

Geography
Ventura County includes quite a few rugged hills in the San Emigdio Range, near the county's northern border. The highest peak is Mount Pinos (8,831 ft). More than one-third of Ventura County's northern section is part of Los Padres National Forest.
Moving south, there are several valleys where agriculture is dominant: Santa Clara Valley, Simi Valley, and the Oxnard Plain. At the southwest corner of Ventura County lies the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.
Across the Santa Barbara Channel in the Pacific Ocean lies Anacapa Island, the closest Channel Island. San Nicolas Island is slightly larger and much more distant; it is currently controlled by the US Navy.
